Privacy Policy
Better Prayer
Last updated: August 31, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Adam Hincu ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, stores, and protects information when you use the Better Prayer mobile application for iOS ("Better Prayer" or the "App") and related services, including our website at better-prayer.com (together, the "Services").
We wrote this policy in plain language because we believe you should understand what happens to your information. If anything here is unclear, contact us at help@better-prayer.com.
By using the Services, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Services.
1. Who we are
Better Prayer is developed and operated by Adam Hincu, the individual developer behind the App.
- Website: better-prayer.com
- Support email: help@better-prayer.com
- Privacy Policy URL: better-prayer.com/privacy-policy
For privacy-related requests, email us at help@better-prayer.com. We will respond within a reasonable time and, where applicable law requires, within the deadlines set by that law.
2. Our privacy approach
Better Prayer is designed so that most of what matters day to day stays on your iPhone. Prayer times, notification preferences, location settings, blocked-app selections, and similar app data are stored locally on your device unless you choose to sign in for account features.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your information for third-party advertising. We do not use third-party product analytics SDKs in the App (such as Google Analytics, Firebase Analytics, or similar services). The website at better-prayer.com uses Google Analytics to understand aggregate traffic and how people use the site; that website analytics does not apply to the App. We collect only what we need to operate the App, keep optional accounts working, understand website usage, and protect the Services from abuse.
3. Information we collect
The information we collect depends on how you use the App. Sign-in is optional. Most features work without an account.
3.1 Information you provide
| Information | When | Where it is stored |
|---|---|---|
| Email address | If you sign in with email (magic link), Google, or Apple and an email is available | Our authentication provider (Supabase) and related account records on our servers |
| Name and profile photo | If you sign in with Apple or Google and choose to share them, or if you update your display name or avatar in the App | Account metadata on our servers |
| Support messages | If you contact us by email | Our email systems |
If you use Sign in with Apple, Apple may give you the option to hide your email. In that case we receive a private relay address instead of your personal email. We treat relay addresses the same way as any other account email.
If you use Google Sign-In, we receive the information Google shares with us according to your Google account settings and the permissions you approve, typically including your email address, name, and profile picture.
If you use email sign-in, we send a one-time magic link to the address you enter. We do not ask for or store a password in the App.
3.2 Information collected automatically when you use an account
When you are signed in, our servers may record:
- A unique account identifier
- Your sign-in method or methods (Apple, Google, or email)
- When your account was created and when you last signed in
- Technical information needed to keep your session secure
We maintain an email registry on our servers that associates your email address with your account while the account exists. This helps us manage accounts, prevent misuse, and keep authentication reliable. We update it when you sign in or when your account email changes. We delete registry entries when you delete your account.
For Sign in with Apple, we may store an Apple refresh token on our servers so we can revoke Apple's authorization when you delete your account, as Apple requires. That token is used only for authentication lifecycle management, not to access unrelated Apple data.
3.3 Information stored on your device
The following information is stored locally on your iPhone and is not uploaded to our servers as part of normal App operation:
- Prayer calculation preferences (method, madhab, time format, and related settings)
- Theme and appearance preferences
- Your chosen location for prayer times and Qibla (GPS coordinates or manually selected city)
- Notification settings and scheduled local alerts
- Onboarding and in-app preference state
- Your Screen Time / app-blocking selections (stored as Apple's opaque Family Activity tokens; we cannot read the names of apps you block)
- Daily verse notification preferences
- Local counters used for optional App Store review prompts
- Photos taken for Verify Wudu, which are processed on your device by on-device machine learning and are not uploaded to us
Prayer times and Qibla direction are calculated on your device from your stored location and standard astronomical and magnetic models.
3.4 Device permissions
The App may ask for optional iOS permissions. You can decline or later revoke them in iOS Settings. Core App features remain available without sign-in, and most features remain available without granting every permission.
| Permission | Why we ask | Sent to our servers? |
|---|---|---|
| Location (When In Use) | Accurate prayer times and live Qibla compass; you may choose a city manually instead | No |
| Camera | Optional Verify Wudu feature to unlock app blocking during prayer | No — processed on device only |
| Notifications | Prayer alerts and daily verse reminders | No — scheduled locally on device |
| Screen Time / Family Controls | Block selected apps during prayer times | No — selections stay in Apple's Screen Time system and local app storage |
We do not access your microphone through the App.
3.5 Information we do not collect
We do not intentionally collect:
- Contacts, calendars, photos library contents, or browsing history
- Health or medical records
- Payment card or billing information (the App is free and has no in-app purchases)
- A list of other apps installed on your device
- Audio recordings
- Third-party product analytics, usage tracking, or advertising identifiers collected through analytics SDKs in the App
3.6 Website analytics
When you visit better-prayer.com, we use Google Analytics (provided by Google LLC) to understand how the website is used. Google may collect:
- Pages viewed and in-site navigation
- Approximate location derived from IP address
- Device, browser, and referral information
- Cookie-based client identifiers stored in your browser
We use this to understand site traffic and improve the website. We do not use this data for third-party advertising. Google processes this information under Google's Privacy Policy. You can opt out of Google Analytics with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
4. How we use information
We use information only for legitimate purposes related to the Services:
- Providing the App — calculating and displaying features, honoring your settings, and delivering local notifications
- Optional accounts — signing you in, syncing account identity across devices where supported, and displaying your profile information
- Security and abuse prevention — protecting accounts, investigating misuse, and maintaining the email registry while an account exists
- Account deletion compliance — revoking Sign in with Apple tokens when you delete an Apple-linked account
- Support — responding to questions you send us
- Website improvement — understanding aggregate traffic and how people use better-prayer.com through Google Analytics
- Legal compliance — meeting obligations under applicable law and responding to valid legal requests
We do not use information from the camera, Screen Time APIs, or location for advertising or marketing. We do not use third-party analytics tools to track how you use the App.
5. How we share information
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information.
We share information only in these situations:
5.1 Service providers
We use trusted providers who process information on our behalf to run the Services:
| Provider | Role | Typical data involved |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Authentication, database, and secure server functions | Account identifiers, email, profile metadata, authentication tokens |
| Apple | Sign in with Apple, Screen Time, MapKit place search, push notification delivery, on-device services | As determined by Apple when you use their services |
| Google Sign-In | Sign-in profile data | |
| Google Analytics | Website usage analytics | Pages viewed, device and browser information, approximate location, cookie identifiers |
| Expo / EAS | App build and delivery infrastructure | Generally no end-user personal data in normal App use |
We require service providers to handle information only for the purposes we specify and to protect it appropriately. Their own privacy policies also apply when their services interact directly with you.
5.2 When you choose to share
If you use the iOS share sheet or copy content to your clipboard, you choose where that information goes. We do not control third-party apps or services you share to.
5.3 Legal and safety reasons
We may disclose information if we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to:
- comply with applicable law, regulation, legal process, or valid government request
- enforce our Terms of Service
- protect the rights, property, or safety of us, our users, or others
- detect, prevent, or address fraud, security, or technical issues
5.4 Business transfers
If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you of any change in ownership or uses of your personal information where required by law.
6. Legal bases for processing (EEA, UK, and similar regions)
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or another region that requires a legal basis for processing personal data, we rely on the following:
| Purpose | Legal basis |
|---|---|
| Providing optional account features you request | Performance of a contract (our Terms of Service) |
| Keeping the App secure and preventing abuse, including the email registry while an account exists | Legitimate interests (protecting the Services and users), balanced against your rights |
| Optional device permissions (location, camera, notifications, Screen Time) | Consent through iOS permission prompts; you may withdraw consent in Settings |
| Understanding website usage via Google Analytics | Legitimate interests (improving the website), balanced against your rights. In some regions, analytics cookies may also require consent |
| Compliance with law | Legal obligation |
You may object to processing based on legitimate interests where applicable law gives you that right.
7. Retention
We keep information only as long as necessary for the purposes described in this policy.
| Data | Retention |
|---|---|
| Account and profile data (including email on our servers) | While your account exists |
| Email registry entries | While your account exists; deleted when you delete your account |
| Apple refresh tokens | While your Apple-linked account exists; deleted when you delete your account |
| Authentication sessions on device | Until you sign out or delete the App/account, subject to iOS Keychain behavior |
| Local App preferences and data on device | Until you delete the App or reset related data on your device |
| Support emails | As long as needed to resolve your request and maintain reasonable business records |
| Website analytics (Google Analytics) | According to our Google Analytics property data-retention settings and Google's systems |
When you delete your account in Settings → Account → Delete Account, we permanently delete your account and the server-side data tied to it, including profile records and email registry entries linked to your account. Local data on your device is not automatically erased when you delete your account; remove the App or reset App data on your device if you want that cleared too.
Backups and logs held by our service providers may take additional time to purge according to their systems.
8. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the following rights:
- Access — request a copy of personal information we hold about you
- Correction — request correction of inaccurate information
- Deletion — delete your account in the App or ask us to delete information we hold
- Restriction or objection — object to or ask us to limit certain processing
- Portability — receive information you provided in a structured, commonly used format where applicable
- Withdraw consent — where processing is based on consent, withdraw it at any time without affecting prior lawful processing
How to exercise your rights
- Delete your account: Settings → Account → Delete Account in the App
- Sign out: Settings → Account → Sign Out
- Revoke permissions: iOS Settings → Better Prayer
- Website analytics: use the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on, or email help@better-prayer.com
- Other requests: email help@better-prayer.com
We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling a request. If you use Sign in with Apple, deleting your account may require an additional Apple confirmation step.
We will not discriminate against you for exercising privacy rights where prohibited by law.

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CCPA/CPRA), we provide this notice:
Categories of personal information we collect: identifiers (such as email, account ID, and website analytics cookie identifiers), internet or other electronic network activity (website page views and navigation), and customer records (account profile information).
Sources: you, your device, your authentication provider, and website analytics (Google Analytics).
Business purposes: providing the Services and security as described in this policy.
We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
You have the right to know, delete, and correct personal information, and to limit use of sensitive personal information where applicable. Because we do not sell personal information, there is no opt-out of sale. Submit requests to help@better-prayer.com.
EEA and UK residents
You may lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. We encourage you to contact us first so we can try to resolve your concern.
9. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect information, including encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS), secure credential storage on device (iOS Keychain), and access controls on our server infrastructure.
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. International transfers
We and our service providers may process information in countries other than where you live, including the United States and countries where Supabase, Google, or Apple operate data centers. When we transfer personal data internationally, we rely on appropriate safeguards where required by law, such as standard contractual clauses or equivalent mechanisms offered by our providers.
11. Children's privacy
Better Prayer is a general-audience app for Muslims who want support with prayer habits. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, contact help@better-prayer.com and we will take steps to delete it.
If you are between 13 and the age of legal majority where you live, you may use the App only with permission from a parent or legal guardian who agrees to this Privacy Policy on your behalf.
12. Third-party content and links
The App includes Quranic text and translations from recognized sources, and may link to our website or third-party sites. This policy does not apply to third-party websites or services you access outside the App. Review their privacy policies separately.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top. If changes are material, we will provide additional notice where appropriate, such as in the App or on our website.
Your continued use of the Services after an update means you accept the revised policy, except where applicable law requires your consent for specific changes.
