Terms of Service
Better Prayer
Last updated: August 31, 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a legal agreement between you and Adam Hincu ("Developer," "we," "us," or "our") governing your access to and use of the Better Prayer mobile application for iOS ("Better Prayer" or the "App") and related services, including our website at better-prayer.com (together, the "Services").
Please read these Terms carefully. By downloading, installing, accessing, or using the Services, you agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Services.
1. Who we are
Better Prayer is developed and operated by Adam Hincu as an individual developer.
- Website: better-prayer.com
- Support: help@better-prayer.com
- Privacy Policy: better-prayer.com/privacy-policy
2. Eligibility
You must be able to form a binding contract in your jurisdiction to use the Services.
Better Prayer is not directed to children under 13. If you are under 13, you may not use the Services. If you are at least 13 but below the age of legal majority where you live, you may use the Services only with the permission and supervision of a parent or legal guardian who accepts these Terms on your behalf.
You represent that the information you provide when creating an account, if you choose to create one, is accurate and that you will keep it up to date.
3. Description of the Services
Better Prayer is a free iOS app designed to help Muslims with daily prayer habits. Features may include, without limitation:
- Prayer time calculations and alerts
- Qibla direction guidance
- Daily Quranic verses and translations
- Optional blocking of selected apps during prayer times through Apple's Screen Time APIs
- Optional on-device wudu verification using the camera
- Optional account sign-in to sync account identity across devices
We may add, change, suspend, or remove features at any time. Because the App relies on your device, iOS, and third-party services, features may not always be available or may behave differently on different devices or iOS versions.
The App is provided free of charge. There are currently no in-app purchases, subscriptions, or paid tiers.
4. No religious authority
Better Prayer is a tool, not a mosque, scholar, fatwa service, or religious authority.
Prayer times, Qibla direction, translations, notification schedules, and similar outputs are generated from mathematical models, third-party text sources, and your settings. They may be inaccurate because of location error, device sensors, calculation method differences, magnetic interference, software bugs, or other factors.
You are responsible for verifying religious obligations with qualified sources you trust. Do not rely on the App as your sole basis for determining prayer times, Qibla, wudu validity, or any other religious ruling.
Quranic translations are provided for reflection and convenience. Arabic text and translations may contain errors despite our care. Always refer to authoritative sources for study and worship.
5. Important feature disclaimers
5.1 Prayer times and Qibla
Location-based features depend on GPS, manual city selection, device sensors, and calculation libraries. Results are estimates. We do not guarantee they will match your local mosque, official timetables, or physical compass readings in all conditions.
5.2 App blocking and Screen Time
App blocking uses Apple's Screen Time and Family Controls framework. Availability depends on your device, iOS version, and Apple's policies. Blocking may be delayed, incomplete, or bypassable. You remain responsible for your device usage and prayer observance.
We cannot see the names of apps you choose to block; Apple provides opaque selection tokens only.
5.3 Verify Wudu
If you use Verify Wudu, photos are captured and analyzed on your device to offer an assistive unlock during prayer lock. This feature is not a definitive religious judgment about wudu. Lighting, camera quality, and model limitations can produce incorrect results. You are solely responsible for your own wudu and worship.
5.4 Notifications
Local notifications depend on iOS settings, Focus modes, battery state, and system scheduling. We do not guarantee that alerts will arrive at exact times or at all.
6. Optional accounts
You may use most of the App without creating an account.
If you choose to sign in with Apple, Google, or email, you authorize us and our authentication provider to process the account information described in our Privacy Policy. Sign-in is offered so you can sync your account identity across devices where supported.
You are responsible for maintaining the security of your device and any authentication methods you use. Notify us promptly at help@better-prayer.com if you believe your account has been compromised.
You may sign out at any time in Settings. You may delete your account at any time in Settings → Account → Delete Account. Deletion permanently removes the server-side account data we store for you, as described in our Privacy Policy. Deleting your account does not by itself erase all local data on your device.
If you signed in with Apple, account deletion may require an additional confirmation with Apple.
7. Acceptable use
You agree to use the Services lawfully and respectfully. You may not:
- use the Services for any unlawful, harmful, fraudulent, or abusive purpose
- attempt to gain unauthorized access to our systems, other users' accounts, or third-party services connected to the App
- reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App except where applicable law expressly permits it
- interfere with or disrupt the Services, including by introducing malware or excessive automated requests
- use the Services to harass, threaten, defame, or discriminate against others
- misrepresent your identity or affiliation
- scrape, harvest, or collect information from the Services except as permitted by these Terms
- remove, obscure, or alter copyright, trademark, or attribution notices
- use the Services in a way that violates Apple's App Store terms, Google's terms (if you use Google Sign-In), or any applicable law
We may suspend or terminate access if we reasonably believe you have violated these Terms or if necessary to protect the Services, users, or third parties.
8. Intellectual property
8.1 Our rights
The App, its design, code, branding, and original content are owned by the Developer or licensed to us and are protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. These Terms do not grant you any ownership rights in the Services.
We grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the App on Apple devices you own or control, solely for your personal, non-commercial use, subject to these Terms and Apple's App Store rules.
8.2 Third-party content
The App includes third-party religious text, translations, libraries, and data, including Quranic content attributed to sources such as Tanzil and QuranEnc, prayer calculation libraries, and magnetic model data. That content remains subject to the rights of its respective owners and licensors. Attributions appear in the App where applicable.
Apple, Google, SF Symbols, iOS, Screen Time, Sign in with Apple, and other third-party names and marks are the property of their respective owners. Use of those services is subject to their terms and policies.
8.3 Feedback
If you send suggestions, ideas, or feedback about the Services, you grant us a perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free license to use that feedback to improve the Services without obligation to you.
9. Third-party services
The Services integrate with or depend on third-party platforms and providers, including Apple, Google, and Supabase. Your use of those services may be governed by separate terms and privacy policies.
We are not responsible for third-party services, their availability, or their acts or omissions. Links to third-party websites are provided for convenience only.
10. Privacy
Your use of the Services is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices. The Privacy Policy is incorporated into these Terms by reference.
In summary: most App data stays on your device; if you create an account we store account-related information, including your email, while the account exists; we do not sell your information; we do not use third-party analytics SDKs in the App; and the website uses Google Analytics as described in the Privacy Policy.
11. Disclaimers
THE SERVICES ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY.
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, ACCURACY, AND QUIET ENJOYMENT.
WITHOUT LIMITING THE FOREGOING, WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT:
- THE SERVICES WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, SECURE, OR ERROR-FREE
- PRAYER TIMES, QIBLA DIRECTION, TRANSLATIONS, NOTIFICATIONS, APP BLOCKING, OR WUDU VERIFICATION WILL BE ACCURATE, COMPLETE, OR RELIABLE
- DEFECTS WILL BE CORRECTED
- THE SERVICES WILL MEET YOUR REQUIREMENTS OR EXPECTATIONS
Some jurisdictions do not allow exclusion of certain warranties, so some of the above may not apply to you. In that case, warranties are limited to the minimum extent required by law.
12. Limitation of liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW:
IN NO EVENT WILL THE DEVELOPER BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, GOODWILL, SPIRITUAL OUTCOMES, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE SERVICES, EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE SERVICES OR THESE TERMS WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US FOR THE SERVICES IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS BEFORE THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM, OR (B) FIFTY US DOLLARS (USD $50).
Because the App is free, clause (A) will often be zero; clause (B) sets a modest cap where permitted.
Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law, including liability for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by negligence where such limitation is prohibited.
You acknowledge that prayer, worship, and personal discipline are matters of individual responsibility, and that software cannot replace your own judgment, community guidance, or scholarly instruction.
13. Indemnification
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, you agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless the Developer from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or related to:
- your use or misuse of the Services
- your violation of these Terms
- your violation of any law or third-party right
- any content or information you provide to us
We may assume exclusive defense and control of any matter subject to indemnification by you, and you agree to cooperate with our defense. You may not settle any claim without our prior written consent unless it fully releases us without admission of wrongdoing.
If indemnification is not enforceable against you under your local law, this section applies only to the extent permitted.
14. Changes to the Services and Terms
We may modify the Services or these Terms at any time. When we update these Terms, we will change the "Last updated" date above. If changes are material, we will provide reasonable notice where appropriate, such as in the App or on our website.
Your continued use of the Services after updated Terms take effect constitutes acceptance, except where applicable law requires your explicit consent. If you do not agree to updated Terms, stop using the Services and delete your account if you have one.
15. Termination
You may stop using the Services at any time by deleting the App and, if applicable, deleting your account.
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Services, or disable account features, at any time if we reasonably believe you violated these Terms, if required by law, if continuing the Services becomes impractical, or to protect users or the Developer.
Sections that by their nature should survive termination will survive, including intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnification, governing law, and dispute provisions.
16. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of Romania, without regard to conflict-of-law rules that would apply another jurisdiction's laws, except where mandatory consumer protection laws in your country of residence require otherwise.
Before filing a formal legal claim, you agree to contact us at help@better-prayer.com and attempt in good faith to resolve the dispute informally within thirty (30) days.
If informal resolution fails, any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Services will be brought exclusively in the courts located in Romania, unless applicable law grants you the right to bring claims in your country of residence as a consumer.
Class action waiver. To the fullest extent permitted by law, you and the Developer agree that each may bring claims against the other only in an individual capacity and not as a plaintiff or class member in any purported class, collective, or representative proceeding.
If you are a consumer in the European Union or another region with mandatory dispute-resolution or jurisdiction rules, those rules apply where they cannot be waived by contract.
17. Apple-specific terms
If you downloaded the App from Apple's App Store, you acknowledge that:
- these Terms are between you and the Developer, not Apple
- Apple is not responsible for the App or its content
- Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the App
- Apple is not responsible for addressing claims relating to the App, including product liability, legal compliance, or intellectual property claims
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you as a third-party beneficiary
Your use of the App must comply with Apple's App Store Terms of Service and applicable usage rules.
18. General provisions
Entire agreement. These Terms and the Privacy Policy constitute the entire agreement between you and the Developer regarding the Services and supersede prior agreements on the same subject.
Severability. If any provision of these Terms is found invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in effect.
No waiver. Our failure to enforce any provision is not a waiver of that provision or any other provision.
Assignment. You may not assign or transfer these Terms without our consent. We may assign these Terms in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
Language. These Terms are written in English. Any translated version is provided for convenience only. If there is a conflict, the English version controls to the extent permitted by law.
Force majeure. We are not liable for delay or failure to perform due to events beyond our reasonable control, including acts of God, war, labor disputes, internet failures, or platform changes by Apple or other providers.
Export. You agree to comply with applicable export control and sanctions laws.
